Guest BiographiesJoAnne Juren:Eta Signa Alpha is the first honor society established exclusively for homeschooled students. ESA was founded in 1999 by Joanne E. Juren, M. Ed., Executive Director of the Home Education Partnership of Texas. As a former public school administrator, Juren contacted the National Honor Society with the intent of forming a homeschool chapter for her sons and others in a local support group in 1997. When told that NHS did not accept homeschool students, Juren decided to start a new honor society for homeschoolers. Over the next two years, the idea for Eta Sigma Alpha was refined and the "Alpha" chapter was started in 1999 through the Home Education Partnership of Texas. Barbara Gorman served as the first lead sponsor along with Joanne Juren and Terry Arnold as co-sponsors. Today there are over 130 chapters nationwide; all chapters are listed on www. etasigmaalpha. com Tammy Caldwell
Tammy Cardwell is one who has
lived in the trenches and 'been there and done that' where homeschooling
is concerned. After well over a decade of facing life's challenges while
continuing to keep her children learning at home, and after having helped
homeschoolers in a variety of ways - running local support groups,
planning conferences, teaching in co-ops and online, writing, editing for
Eclectic Homeschool Online (EHO), speaking at conferences, writing and
publishing books - she proudly accepts the title Homeschool Veteran. Tammy
actively serves homeschoolers today as one of the editors of EHO, as an
author, as a publisher (See, I Told Me So!, a book of reassurance for
worried homeschoolers, is a recent C J Press release), and as a speaker.
Denise Boriack Mrs. Denise Boriack - also known as Dr. Boriack - has been married to her wonderful husband Mike for 22 years. They have five blessins ( ages 17- 3) here, and five in Heaven. They have always homeschooled. She graduated from Texas A&M as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. After practicing for four years before their first child was born, she answered God's call to become a stay-at-home mom and then a homeschool mom. She acknowledges her role fulfilling the command of Titus 2 and encourages other moms to experience the tremendous blessings to be found following God's Word and calling. While previously operating a small clinic out of her home once a month, she is grateful to have the greatest job in the world - wife and mother. She encourages and challenges others to seek the will of God and to live ot His purposes in their lives.
